	President Jiang Zemin has sent a letter to congratulate the 100th anniversary of the founding of nine universities in east China's Jiangsu Province. A ceremony to mark the anniversary was held in Nanjing, the provincial capital, Monday.

	China and East Timore formally established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level on Monday, May 20, 2002. Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and his East Timorese counterpart, Dr. Jose Ramos Horta signed the joint communique on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in Dili on Monday.
